Lenten Meditation-Mark 1: 16-18

The Beginning of the Galilean Ministry

16 As Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake—for they were fishermen. 17And Jesus said to them, ‘Follow me and I will make you fish for people.’ 18And immediately they left their nets and followed him.

Here a quest began on an untrodden path. A leader that spoke with such authority that those  he summoned dropped everything and followed.  Simon and Andrew were simple fishermen who simply followed. Whatever their reason whether a thirst for wisdom, knowledge or power their destiny became the quest.

He called them and taught them to fish for people. And look at all that they caught. The sheer power of the message has worked its magic for 2000 years. It all started with, “Follow me and I will make you fish for people.”

Prayer: Dear Lord, I want to continue the quest to fish for people. Help me and all of your disciples of today to learn how to fish. Amen.
