Feeding the Five Thousand

Lenten Meditation-Mark 6:34

34As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.

The crowd followed our Lord to a deserted place:

They are searching for meaning; searching for a leader; searching for a king; searching for a messiah; searching for God.

Following the crowd, I wonder where they are going?

Searching for hope; searching for love; searching for ourselves; searching, searching, forever searching.

Who do we follow? Who will lead?  We are lost souls searching.

Sitting in the blazing sun. Listen to the teacher.

Searching for a cure. What ails us?

Sitting in this wasteland. Search the lonely crowd of faces. Souls all trapped behind the faces.

Searching for God’s kingdom; the kingdom lies within.

Searching for words; searching for thoughts; lost sheep looking for a shepherd. Sitting in the wasteland, listening to the teacher teach.

Searching for food–loaves and fishes–loaves and fishes–loaves and fishes–bread of life–fisher of men. Pray to God. Amen.
